James Beard Award–winning chef and restaurateur Anne Quatrano—mastermind of Star Provisions and the Michelin-starred Bacchanalia—is ready to reveal her next project: a fine-dining breakfast-and-lunch restaurant called Summerland. Located in the Upper West Market—a large indoor farmer’s market in development on Collier Road behind Nuevo Laredo Cantina—Summerland will feature a bakery and coffee counter, as well as a separate menu of composed plates for seated dining.
“This is something new and different for us,” Quatrano says. “I’ve always wanted a daytime restaurant where we could excel with what we do culinarily.”
A concise restaurant menu will feature 12 to 14 dishes, primarily served in bowls to provide layers of flavor and texture, Quatrano says. Sustainability is a key tenet of her businesses, and Summerland will be no different. Offerings will be vegetable-forward, but not necessarily vegetarian, she explains. Look for baked cottage cheese with eggs and a fern-herb salad with sourdough croutons; Carolina Gold rice porridge with roasted leeks, crispy onion, and soft egg; and chicken schnitzel with raw peanuts, pickled coriander, arugula, and lemon. On the beverage side, there will be beer and wine, but no liquor. “It’ll be a menu that bridges the whole day,” Quatrano says.

Open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Summerland will offer breads, pastries, and a few savory items to-go, though there will be a counter for standing and enjoying items on the premises. Quatrano notes that Summerland’s menu won’t overlap with Star Provisions’ offerings. Even the laminated doughs, such as croissants, will be unique to Summerland. “I don’t foresee a chocolate croissant—maybe pistachio and honey,” she says. Quatrano will also move all baking for her company onsite.
Expect 50 to 60 seats inside, plus a small patio. Reservations are recommended.
The Upper West Market will feature 34 stalls with local farmers market vendors selling produce like apples and mushrooms, in addition to notable brands such as White Oak Pastures, Brash Coffee Roasters, Banner Butter, Noble Honey Co., Dips Kitchen, and Honeysuckle Gelato. However, it is not intended to be a food hall, but a market similar to Pike Place in Seattle.
“The Market is going to be vibrant—I wanted to be part of it,” Quatrano says. “I think it’s a big step in the right direction for local farmers.”’
